5.150 to 5.875 Ghz services
Occupy all of the 6cm Amateur Radio Band 5650 - 5850Mhz divided into 7 major slots for voice, data and video services with 18Mhz bandwidth per slot (wideband) and several minor slots for CW & SSB and satellite (narrowband) services.

Typical TX power levels 1mW to 10mW (max) for domestic equipment, licensed amateurs are allowed much more. Typical distance of most domestic communication gear is ~10 meters to 100 meters (300feet) or more if using narrow-cast antenna (dish like objects mounted on poles).

Terms:
DSSS = Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum
OFDM = Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing
Bluetooth = a communications protocol used on 2.4Ghz
802.11x = a communications protocol used on 2.4 & 5.8Ghz

"Frequency Hopping" Allows more people to use this narrow part of the radio frequency spectrum by changing channels rapidly in predefined sequences. Thus allowing the "electronic smarts" to easily recover the audio / video / data information from what sounds like a hash of noise. Older video / audio systems show this noise as pulsating line interference or strong varying audio hiss.

Omni directional communication for distances under 100 meters are typical for 5.8Ghz. This still depends on transmitter output power (~10-100mW) and orientation of the antenna(s). To exceed the 100 meter limit without increasing transmitter power you will need a pair of yagi or dish antenna, pointing at each other without obstructions between and as close to the transmitter as physically possible. At these frequencies long coax runs will defeat any gains.
