Magic glass tubes of metal and wire working at high and low voltages,
generating lots of heat to acheive simple and complex circuits. The
technology of the early to mid 20th century, the fore-runner of today's
21st century hi-tech world... Below
is my limited
collection of acient parts obtained from previous gererations, when
radio receivers were rare and expensive to maintain. Most of the tubes
are "no good" according to handwritten
notes on the boxes, costing 11/6' in 1945, so I suspose it was too
expensive even to throw away :D
There is also a collection of 1960's / 70's TV valves, most are extracted from old TV sets and their operational status is unknown, probably not working. Valves are still made in the 21st century, but the largest and bigest valve is quiclky fading as LCD screens replace the humble picture tube. Once gone the last of an era it will be! List of valves: Interested? contact me...
